1.
The first step to this repair is to firstly remove the straps. This is done by pressing the clips on the strap holder found on the underside of the straps.2.
Apply some heat to the side opposite the Fitbit logo to loosen the adhesive holding the screen to the housing.3.
Pry under this side by running along the length of that side of the screen with a thin pry tool.4.
At this point you will likely need to heat up the two sides next to the side you've already gotten into so that you can then pry the screen up and away from the housing. Sometimes just heating up the one side is enough.5.
Once the screen is away from the housing you then need to remove the metal shield in order to remove the screen. This is held in by screws at either corner as highlighted below:6.
Now that the screws are out, you can pry the metal shield away from the device followed by prying away the two ribbons attaching the screen to the motherboard.7.
Remove any excess glue that is stuck to the housing that when you re-glue the device, you are able to create a more complete seal. It might make this process easier if you remove the additional ribbon that's left hanging off the board.8.
Once you've removed the screen, you can follow the process you've just carried out in reverse.8a.
Attach your replacement Fitbit Ionic screen by pressing down its two ribbons into place.8b.
If you've removed the additional ribbon then you will now re-attach it with the black side facing towards the Fitbit logo side. This ribbon is smaller and is easier if you use and tool to re-attach. This ribbon attaches more centrally than the screen ribbons.8c.
Insert the metal shield and remember to secure it back into place with its two screws.9.
You must then glue down your new Fitbit Ionic screen to its housing. For this you'll need a fit for purpose adhesive. We use this T-8000 adhesive which you can either find online or purchase from us.10.
Wipe away any glue that's escaping from the device.11.
To secure your screen down you will need to leave it to set for the next 24 hours. We recommend using elastic bands or a small vice, both work just as well as each other.12.
Once the adhesive has set you can re attach your straps and get back to using your Fitibit device. And your Fitbit Ionic repair is complete!
